The Matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.
Holy Matrimony is the sacrament by which a man and a woman enter into union with each other and make their vows before God and the church.
Marriage is based on the consent of contracting parties, that is, of their will to give themselves, each to the other, mutually and definitively, in order to live a covenant of faithful and fruitful love.
Marriage is a channel to which we achieve the purpose of God (to subdue the earth, fill it and take dominion), in which God calls us, and for which we are created for. It is an institution that accomplishes the purpose of God, empowers us the ability to do more for God.
